Zachary Allen Atencio, 39, of Waverly, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
He was born December 27, 1983 in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of Robert and Linda (Black) Atencio.
Surviving is his fiancé, Valerie Sharp; his beloved daughter, Laney Jaid Atencio; the mother of his daughter, Letha J. (Pherson) Atencio; his sisters, Tabbatha Atencio and Raven Atencio; his brothers, Robbie Atencio and Ryan Atencio; his nephew, Gage Atencio; as well as numerous other family members and friends. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Tiffany Atencio, his uncle, David Black, and his grandmother, Sylvia Adams Black.
Zachary was a proud member of Another Chance Ministries and Zion Baptist Church. He had been in recovery for the last three years and was proud of the strides he was making in his sobriety. He had many friends in the recovery community and considered Pastor J. Troy Gray to be a part of his family. He was baptized in Florida in 2022, which is a special memory his family and friends hold dear to their hearts. His kind, loving soul will live on in the lives of people he touched.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. J. Troy Gray officiating. Friends are welcomed to join the family for visitation from 4:00pm until the time of his service. Cremation services will be performed following his services, and he will be laid to rest beside his mother and sister at Evergreen Union Cemetery on Denver Rd.
