William G. Slater, 85, of Chillicothe, died at 8:53am, February 19, 2015, at Westmoreland Place following an extended illness. He was born May 20, 1929, to the late Dewey and Hattie (Jones) Slater. On June 20, 1953, he married the former Audra E. Williamson, who survives. Also surviving are his son Richard Steven Slater, of Lebanon, OH; his daughter and son-in-law Stephanie (John) Evans, Columbus; grandchildren: Benjamin Slater; Michael and Andrew Baker; Luke, Eli and Isabelle Evans; great-grandchildren: Madeline Aiko Slater; Chase, Natalie, Ethan and Brendan Baker; a brother Marvin Slater, Williamson, WV; and sisters Pat Williamson, Chillicothe; and Sophia Small, Williamson, WV. Mr. Slater was a union carpenter for over 25 years. Upon retirement he continued as a self-employed contractor. Evidence of his craft is visible throughout Ross Co. where he built homes, barns and furniture. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, February 21, at the Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside service, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-2pm Saturday at Haller's.
