William Painter

William Boyd Painter, Sr., 71, of Chillicothe, died at the Valley View Alzheimer Care Center on Friday, June 30 after an extended illness. He was born on September 20, 1934 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the son of the late June Jarvis Painter and Mary Elizabeth Claypool Painter. Bill's wife of 46 years, Mary Sandra Hinkle Painter, survives him. His sister, Martha Jean Tallmon (Robert), is living in Pleasant Valley. His Step-brother, Charles, still lives in West Virginia. Bryan Hinkle (Jean), his brother-in-law, lives in North Carolina. Surviving are three sons, William Boyd Painter, Jr. (Barb), Steven Brian Painter (Kris), and Robert Ray Painter all of Chillicothe. Grandchildren are: Andy, Adam, Kyle and Kassie. Step Grandchildren are Amanda, Betty, Megan, Brandon, and Elizabeth. Great-Grandchildren are: Macie and Mackenna. Bill spent most of his childhood and adult life here in Chillicothe, but he did meet his future bride, Sandy, in Ashtabula, Ohio, where he lived for several years. He worked at the local fiber glass plant painting and finishing the parts for the Corvette and Avante Sports Cars. When he returned to Chillicothe in 1964, he worked as Assistant Manager of Moore's Auto Store and then as a nurse's aide at the VA Medical Center until he retired after 30 years of service. Bill enjoyed playing all kinds of ball, whether it was baseball, football, basketball, or bowling. "Ball" should have been his middle name. He took great pride in his sons and grandchildren as well as his special niece and nephew, Lynda and Bobby. Other nieces and nephews are Rebecca, Paul, Billy, Shane, Keyrn, Lyra, and Alyssa. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Thursday, July 6, at the Haller Funeral Home, with Rev. Dwayne Gibson officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home.
