William Neal

William G. Neal, Jr., 91, of Chillicothe, died 9:52 pm, Saturday, June 4, 2016, at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born July 17, 1924 in Chillicothe to the late William G. and Emma Koebel Neal. On January 9, 1951 he married Ruth F. Damico, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Joannie Neal, Bexley, Mike Neal, Steve (Beth) Neal, Dave (Debbie) Neal, Bill (Diane) Neal, and Sue (Dave) Ott, all of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren, Steve (Helen), Melissa, Mark, and Sarah Neal, Marie (Brandon) Gill, Patrick and Jon (Danny) Neal, and Jessie Ott; six great-grandchildren, Lilli, Camden, Carson, Kennedy, Adalynn and Braeden; two sisters, Mary Whaley, Circleville, and Marjorie Bunch, Venice, Fl; a sister-in-law, Mary Neal; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Neal and two brothers-in-law, Ed Whaley and Booker Bunch. Mr. Neal was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and worked in retail sales most of his career, including Stewart's Menswear, The Union, and retiring from Sears. He was well known as a school crossing guard for the City of Chillicothe and he was a business route delivery person for The Advertiser. He was a very active member of St. Peter Catholic Church where he served as an usher, sacristan, lector, Eucharistic minister, and altar server. He was a life Member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Financial Secretary for many years. He and his wife Ruth received the Christian Witness Award for their dedication to serving others. Mr. Neal was an avid Notre Dame fan and a Chillicothe Paints and Cleveland Browns fan. The family would like to thank Home Helpers caregivers and National Church Residences Hospice. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Friday at St. Peter Church, Rev. William Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Thursday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, where a wake service will be held at 8:00 pm.
