William James "Jake" Lunsford, 87, of Chillicothe, died at 3:07 pm, Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Adena Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born January 14, 1927 in Berea, KY to the late Harrison and Carrie Jones Lunsford. He was married to the late Mary Lunsford for 49 years, and is survived by his wife, Verna Duper Lunsford. Also surviving are his children, Clarence Lunsford, Martha Ootten and Kathy (John) Howard; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, including grandson who is serving in the US Army in South Korea; a great-great grandson, Creed Conley; four sisters, Joyce (Eldon) Congrove, Patty (Billy Joe) Congrove, Fay Widholm, and Wilma Boyd. He was preceded in death by three sons, Bill, Ricky and Spanky; a sister, Millie, and two brothers, Orville and Jack. Jake retired from the Ross Co. Engineering Department as the Superintendent. He was a US Army World War II veteran and a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and Aladdin Shriners. He loved his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. He was known for his quick wit and practical jokes. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Haller Funeral Home, Pastor Kevin Greene officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the US Army and the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Friends may call 11-1 Tuesday at Haller's.
