William Cyrus

October 5, 1927 — September 1, 2015

William Lacy Cyrus, Sr., 87, of Chillicothe, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, September 1, 2015, at the Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 5, 1927, to the late Eldon Ulysses and Ethel (Rader) Cyrus. On June 1, 1947, he married the former Jeraldine Lucille Graves who preceded him in death on June 8, 2010. Surviving are their children, William L. (Donna Murray) Cyrus, Jr.; and Lisa Cyrus Fox, both of Chillicothe; three grandchildren, Tahaune Jo Cyrus; William L. "Trey" (Becca Burdett) Cyrus; and Clayton Andrew (Krysten Nerviano) Cyrus; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Lee Cyrus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. William was an honorably discharged veteran, having served in the Navy during WWII, and then in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After obtaining a Master's Degree from the University of Dayton, William went on to work as a Civil Engineer at the Mead Paper Company. He was known as "1 of the 6 old men" at The Glades of Chillicothe; and even wrote a poem about it, which was published locally in town. He enjoyed poetry, photography, computers, but most of all, he loved trying to outsmart the stock market. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross County Veteran's Honor Guard will follow in Bobblett Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Thursday, September 3, from 6:00-8:00pm at Haller's.
