William Darold Bethel, 86, of Chillicothe, passed away early Saturday morning, September 29, 2018, at the Ohio State University Medical Center.
He was born September 10, 1932, in Chillicothe to the late James and Leota (Richter) Bethel. On June 11, 1955, he married Deloris Yvonne (Murray) Bethel, and together they shared nearly 62 years of marriage before her passing on June 4, 2017.
William is survived by his children, Pamela Bethel, Karen (Glen "J.R") Leach, and Terry (Cynthia) Bethel, all of Chillicothe; his grandchildren, Mindy (Joe) Bennett, Ashley (Charles) Daniel, Lacie (Andrew) Shepherd, Callie (Christopher) Peters, and Shasta (Kyle) Daniel; his great-grandchildren, Charlie Phillips, MaKayla Sherwood, Adrionna Phillips, Grace Peters, and one on the way, Logan Peters; two brothers, Earl Bethel, and Walter (Regina) Bethel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl (Harry) Daniel; a grandson, Harry Daniel, Jr.; his siblings, Russell (Bonnie) Bethel, Margaret (Loren) McCoy, and Charles (Nancy) Bethel; as well as a sister-in-law, Shirley Bethel.
William was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He later worked at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe until his retirement in 1987. He was the owner and operator of Bethel's Custom Butchering and Processing, and was also one of the original firemen to start working for the Huntington Township Fire Department in 1962. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Chillicothe, where he helped with the community services. In his free time, he enjoyed going to yard sales, auctions, and gardening.
A funeral service will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Anderson officiating. A military graveside service will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:30-8:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in his honor, P.O. Box 783, Chillicothe, OH, 45601.
