William A. Bell, 82, of Chillicothe, died 10:48 pm, Monday, April 29, 2013, at Traditions of Chillicothe, following an extended illness. He was born February 23, 1931 in Chillicothe to the late James W. and Mae O'Dell. On June 30, 1951 he married Bertha E. Corrigan, who survives. Also surviving are his seven children, William J. Bell, Carol A. Pontious, Nancy (Jeff) Sanford, Timothy (Tonya) Bell, Karen (Jim) Brown, Janet (Mike) Block, and James "Mike" (Shawna) Bell; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John "Jack" Bell. He was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Bell; a sister, Dorothy Probasco; a son-in-law, Paul E. Pontious; and his parents. Bill retired as an assistant chief train dispatcher from the CSX railroad, with over 40 years of service. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1949. Bill was very active in masonry, including as a member of Scioto Lodge 6 F & AM, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite Bodies, Aladdin Shriners, of which he was an Ambassador, and the Ross Co. Shrine Club, of which he was Past-President. Bill was extremely active in the Shriners and could be seen at almost every meeting and event. Part of his enjoyment was working with the children that were the patients of the Shriners Hospitals. In Bill's spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and many friends. He was an avid bowler and played on several leagues. Bill was a volunteer at the VA Hospital, and a long time blood donor to the American Red Cross. Masonic funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Friday at the Haller Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Grandview Cemetery. Friends and family may call 4-7 pm Friday at Haller's. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals, C/O Ross Co.
