William Bates

William T. Bates, 77, of Mason, OH, formerly of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly at 3:25pm Friday December 28, 2012, at Atrium Medical Center, Middletown, OH. He was born April 6, 1935, in Chillicothe to the late William M. and Gertrude Alberta (Bethel) Bates. On March 26, 1955, he married Alinda L. Wenzel, who survives. Also surviving are his sons William N. Bates, Milford, OH; Dana H. Bates, Mason, OH; a daughter Melea A. Miller, Mason, OH; granddaughters: Lindsey E. Miller, Beavercreek, OH; Kelly L. Miller, Grenada; Emily A. Miller, Cincinnati, OH; Gabrielle A. Bates, Independence, KY; brother-in-law Nikolaus (Martha) Wenzel, Chillicothe; sister-in-law Shirley Hazelwood, Pendleton, KY; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by Alinda's parents, NJ and Dora Wenzel; sisters Imogene Strausbaugh; Audrey Adkins; and June Lutz; brothers-in-law Harold (Babe) Strausbaugh and Gary Hazelwood. Bill was a former member of St. Peter Church and a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1953. He worked for the former Ohio Valley Baking Co., was the District Manager for Wonderbread and Hostess Cake, and later worked for ACOSTA as a Food Broker. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Monday, December 31, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Rev. William Hahn, Celebrant. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 5-7pm, at Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 7pm.
