William Barnard

Rev. William J. Barnard, Sr., 78, of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord at 1:31pm Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Pleasant Hill Manor, Piketon, following an extended illness. He was born May 20, 1934, in Union County, TN, to the late Clint and Alfie Jane (Young) Barnard. On September 25, 1954, he married the former Violet Mae Fodge, who survives. Also surviving are his children: Helen (Ronald) Hardin, of Minford, OH; William Barnard, Jr. and his fiancée Anna Harkless, both of Chillicothe; Rebecca (Don) Hutton, Chillicothe; Cindy Barnard and her fiancée Jerry Coakley, Chillicothe; Sara (James) Blaney, Columbus; Patricia (Mike) McCallister, Sciotoville; Lisa Smith and her fiancée Tony Boullion, Chillicothe; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and brothers Milford (Sandra) Barnard, Sandusky, OH; and Paul (Joyce) Barnard, of Arkansas. He was predeceased by an infant son Kevin D. Barnard; and brothers Ed, Glen and Gene Barnard. Rev. Barnard was a retired Church of God minister. He pastored churches in several communities including Chillicothe, Portsmouth, Oak Hill and Jackson. He also started and organized several missions. He loved blue grass and gospel music and spending time around children. But he especially loved reading the Bible and was known as the "Walking Bible" for his knowledge of the Good Word. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, March 2, at the Haller Funeral Home, with Rev. Stephen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8pm Friday and 1 hour prior to the funeral Saturday at Haller Funeral Home.
