Wayne W. Haines On September 15, 2008 at 5:37 in the morning, the Lord called home His good and faithful servant, Wayne W. Haines, unexpected to his family, but according to the Lord's perfect will. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday in the Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Huntington Township Cemetery. Friends may call 1-3 and 6-9 Thursday at Haller's. Wayne was born July 26, 1941 in Beallsville, OH to Lucille Brown Harper and Forest E. Haines Sr. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Carole E. Cutright Haines, whom he married on October 24, 1959. In addition to his wife and his mother, survivors include his three children, Robin (Jeff Vickers) Snyder, Terri (Samuel) Eldridge, and Randall (Marilyn) Haines, all of Chillicothe; bringing him joy in the later years of his life were his ten grandchildren; Lindsay, Jeffrey, Leah, Jonah, Chelsey, John, Seth, Zachary, Nicholas and Natalie. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Forest Haines, Mary Jo Proehl, Brenda Wood, Karen Detillian, Mike, Tom, and Joseph Haines, Jan Binkowski, Maranda Irwin and Inis Ruth; his step-mother, Margaret Cokonougher. He was preceded in death by his father and his step-father, Emerson Harper. Wayne's life exemplified his commitment to God, family, civic leadership, community, and education. Through a lifetime of discipleship and devotion to the Lord, Wayne served in eldership and trustee positions at Huntington Chapel Christian Union and Bethel Chapel Christian Union as well as serving as God's laborer in the construction of both churches. He also served the larger Christian Union community as the Treasurer for the National General Council, as well as Ohio Second District Moderator. Beginning with his first appointment to the Huntington Local School Board of Education in 1971, Wayne discovered a passion for civic leadership that led to many years of service to the Huntington Township people as a local school board member for six years, the Ross Co. Board of Education for five years, and twenty-four years as the Fiscal Officer (Clerk) for Huntington Township. During Wayne's life, he served on the 1971 inaugural high school football committee, co-founded the Huntington Youth League in 1972, and started Huntington T-Ball program in 1973. He had served as score keeper and clock keeper for both girls and boys athletic teams, and made, installed, and maintained the high school track record boards hanging in the high school gymnasium. In addition, Wayne, also built the original baseball diamond at the Huntington Athletic Complex, and served as the Huntington Athletic Boosters President from 1968-1972. More recently, he was the originator of the Huntington Hall of Fame and served as a committee member since its inception. He was honored to have received the Distinguished Athletic Service Award, presented by the committee in 2004. A lasting legacy to Wayne was begun in 1988, with the establishment of the Haines Scholarship. It has been awarded to Huntington High School graduates attending Ohio University-Chillicothe for 20 years. After 43 years of employment at the Chilpaco Paper Mill, Wayne retired in 2002 as an electrician. During employment he had the privilege of serving on the committee that developed all aspects of the Mead, now Glatfelter, Family Medical Center and he continued to serve as the Chairman of the advisory panel for the center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Haines Scholarship Fund, in care of Homeland Credit Union, or sent to Huntington Middle School, in care of Terri Eldridge, Chair.
