D. Wayne Cunningham, Jr., 80, of Chillicothe, died at 12:34pm May 16, 2025, at Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born December 1, 1944, in Chillicothe, to the late Dorral Wayne, Sr. and Blanche (Arledge) Cunningham. On October 9, 2012, he married the former Beverly S. Beeler, who survives.
Also surviving are his daughters Michelle Cunningham and her partner Dreama Cougar, of Cleveland; Shelby Rae Fink, of Perth, Australia; a special friend, who was like a son to him, Shawn Smith, Chillicothe; granddaughter Penelope Rusha; his siblings Sondra (Warren) Hickmott, of Seaford, VA; Carlotta Sanders, of Columbus, George Daniel (Crystal) Bliss, of Chillicothe; Darla (Billy) Woods-Smith, of Chillicothe; and Randy Bliss (fiancée Kristen Hough), of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Robin Jones.
Wayne was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from Chilpaco and was a former member of Huntington Twp. EMS. He was a member of Scioto Lodge No 6, F & AM, American Legion, Post 62, VFW, Post 108, the 40 et 8 and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1626. He loved farming, the Ohio St. Buckeyes, NASCAR and the Kansas City Chiefs.
His funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, May 21, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, with Chaplain Bruce Hines officiating. A Masonic Funeral and Military Honors, performed by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will also take place at that time. The family will receive friends from 11am until 1pm Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
