Warner Arthur Sanders was called home by the Lord on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 4:00 am. He passed away in his sleep peacefully at CareCore at Westmoreland in Chillicothe, Ohio. Warner was the last surviving child of Charles and Mellie Sanders.
Warner was born September 22, 1928, to Mellie (Smith) and Charles Arthur Sanders at their home in Mt. Sterling. Warner was born and raised in Mt. Sterling, where he attended Monroe Township Elementary until the 8th grade. Warner quit school to assist his father in purchasing 15 acres of land to build the Sanders family home. After working with his father for some years, he also worked for a family, the Cocoran's farm, where he did a variety of farm work, milking cows and helping with other farm projects. He returned to the family home to work with his father until he joined the Army in 1946. He served in the Army for 3 years, where he drove a truck in Japan.
Upon returning from the service, Warner moved to Chillicothe, where he met the love of his life, Helen C. Scales, in 1949. They married February 25, 1950, and moved back to the family home in Mt. Sterling, where they resided until 2005. In 2005, they decided to move to Chillicothe. They were happily married for 70 years. They had two children, Marva Triplett and Marcus (Joreen) Sanders.
After returning to the family home, Warner worked with his father on the Cocoran farm until 1967. For the next two years, he worked on a hog farm until he gained employment at Thompson Industries in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, and worked there for 19 years until he retired in 1990. Even after he retired, Warner and Helen would go cut the grass at Thompson Industries until they moved to Chillicothe.
Warner was a deacon at The Original Glorious Church of Christ for over 50 years. He and his wife would travel from Mt. Sterling to Chillicothe 3 to 4 times a week to serve their Lord and be with their church family.
He is survived by his two children, Marva Triplett and Marcus (Joreen) Sanders; two grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin) Carpenter and Leah Valentine; and three great-grandchildren, Nadia Sanders, Dorian Sanders, and Laiah Valentine. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, a loving church family, and a very special friend, Elder Clifford Brown.
Warner was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mellie (Smith) Sanders; his siblings, Charles Sanders, Anna Sanders, Merle Sanders, Lester Sanders, Katherine (Sanders) Ryan, and baby sister; his wife, Helen (Scales) Sanders, and his grandson Brett Sanders.
Warner was a very sweet, loving, God-fearing man who had never met a stranger. He was always willing to help someone and was the backbone of his family. He loved his family hard and cared for them in every way. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His mind was as sharp as it was when he was 16. He could tell you about the exact day he met his wife, Helen. He was a hard-working man and will truly be missed.
