Walter Vernon "Walt" Jinks, 94, of Lancaster, OH (formerly, a long-time resident of Chillicothe, OH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023. His beloved children were at his bedside. Walt previously mourned the passing of his wife, Dolores (Michaels) Jinks on July 10, 1998. She was the love of his life.
He is survived by his children: Barbara (Eugene) Johnson of Canal Winchester, Mary (Randy) Wilson of Chillicothe, Walter, Jr. (Lisa) of Lancaster, and Joseph Jinks of Waverly along with his 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Winifred (Michaels) Helwig, and many nieces and nephews.
He was born on February 1, 1929 in Laurelville, OH, and was the youngest child of Verna and Bertha (Hoy) Jinks. He was predeceased by his parents, and three sisters, Margaret, Virginia and Frances, along with a dear nephew, Vernon, who was like a brother to him.
Dad met our Mother in 1948, they were married on November 23, 1949, and soon thereafter began their family—two daughters and two sons. He was a loving father, devoted husband and good provider, who enjoyed time with his family. He spent most of his career at Mead Corporation, Research Division, as a programmer/systems analyst. He continued in this role at Thompson Consumer Electronics until his retirement. Outside of work and family, he enjoyed playing and coaching softball in the Mead Research leagues, bowling, playing cards and shooting pool. Dad was a people person. He enjoyed the many friendships he cultivated in his lifetime. LaDonna Kelchner, who preceded him in death, brought joy and companionship to his life. He was fond of her and her family, especially her sons, Brett and Sherm.
Dad was a long-time member at St. Mary Church in Chillicothe. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1071, and was committed to the work they did in service to the church and community. He was a convert to Catholicism, and practiced his faith in his daily life.
Private inurnment services will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Margaret Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
