Walter H. Highland, Jr., 85, of Chillicothe, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 6:00am, after a brief illness. Walter was born on March 28, 1927 to the late Walter H., Sr. and Charlotte Bickel Highland. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Margaret Ann Crosby Highland, who he married on January 29, 1949; their three sons Stephen of Chillicothe, Pat (Jane) of Chillicothe, and Nicholas (Kathryn) of Woodinville, WA; grandchildren Jay Highland, Matthew (Mandy) Highland, Brad (Jolea) Highland, Meghan Highland (Seth) O'Dell, and Julia Helget; great-grandchildren Jack and Claire Highland; brother John P. (Joann) Highland, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Kathryn Highland and Patricia Highland Reed. Upon graduation from Catholic Central High School, Walter served in the US Navy on the USS Card during WWII. After graduating from Xavier University, Walter returned to Chillicothe and opened an accounting office which he operated for over 50 years. Walter was the last surviving original partner in Chillicothe Bowling Lanes, Inc. (Shawnee Lanes), where he held the positions of General Manager and Treasurer for over 40 years. Walter also served as a director and appraiser of First Federal Savings and Loan. Walter was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds. During the past few years he enjoyed watching old westerns and OSU sporting events. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 26, at 11:00 AM with Fr. Lawrence Hummer officiating. Burial will follow at St Margaret's Cemetery, Chillicothe. Friends may call one hour prior to Mass at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be sent to Bishop Flaget School, 570 Parsons Ave. Chillicothe, OH 45601, www.bishopflaget.org
