Virginia "Ginny" Wettersten

February 12, 1949 — November 21, 2025

Chillicothe

Virginia "Ginny" Leask Wettersten died peacefully Friday afternoon at home in her bed holding the hands of her beloved sons Tim & Jake.

Born in Darien, CT February 12 1949 to Peggy & George Leask, her family moved across country twice before moving to Europe when she was 16. In high school in The Hague, Netherlands she met the love of her life, Philip Wettersten. Despite previously residing in Libya and Venezuela, Phil was born a mere 20 miles away from Ginny's birthplace. She returned to Ohio for college, marriage, had three boys, Jake, Andy, & Tim.

She moved to Chillicothe in 1983, and rain or shine went to every one of her boys' baseball, basketball, soccer games, or school events. She was a Ross County Fair award winning cook, who did farm to table from the garden her family tended. She loved puzzles, crosswords, travel & Jeopardy. After the death of her husband, Phil in 1991, Ginny worked 3 part time jobs, went back to school to get her teaching degree, all while raising three boys.

She was a hard worker! She was active in Unioto schools, serving as president of the PTO, founding the district newsletter Tank Talk, and then later teaching English there for 19 years. Ginny was also active at Adena hospital, serving on the board of trustees for over two decades, much of that time on the Executive Committee, and was the Board Chair that oversaw the construction of the new Orthopedic and Robotic surgery center in 2019. She was an active member of Orchard Hill UCC, always looked forward to the Farmer's market Saturday mornings, and enjoyed walks on the bike path with her dogs.

Ginny is survived by her brother, Dick, sister, Marge, her 3 sons, and 5 grandchildren Lucas, Elisabeth, Ian, Henry & Philip. Though she loved flowers, she asked that anyone wanting to honor her memory donate generously to the Adena Foundation where there will be a scholarship in her name.
