Virginia Mead

December 24, 1951 — July 30, 2017

Virginia "Ginny" Leach Mead, passed away peacefully July 30, 2017, at Adena Regional Medical Center.   Born December 24, 1951, at Fort Riley, Kansas, she was the daughter of Col. Charles Robert Leach and Shirley Blake Leach, who both predeceased her. In 1980, she married Michael Patrick Mead, of Schenectady, New York, who died in 1993. Ginny is survived by her siblings, Judith Leach, Robert Leach, and Caroline Ramsey; sister-in-law, Debbie Shoemaker; and brother-in-law, Robert Ramsey. Also surviving are beloved nieces and nephews: Crystal Narayana; and Alex, Owen and Olivia Ramsey.   Ginny was a member of Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, where she served as the secretary of the Miriam-Ruth Circle, United Methodist Women.  Prior to her retirement, Ginny worked for Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center for over two decades. Early in her career, she served as professional staff for two Girl Scout Councils – The Seal of Ohio (now Heartland) Council and the Foothills Council, in Utica, New York. A lifelong lover of books and history, Ginny was a voracious reader. She was active in Friends of the Library, The Lucy Webb Hayes Heritage Center, and the Chillicothe Railroad Museum.   Ginny was a giving, loving, and empathetic individual who supported her family and friends. She was especially active in the recovery community.   Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, where the funeral service will take place on August 2, at 11:00 a.m, Rev. Samuel Mincey officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Contributions in Ginny's memory can be made to Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church or Friends of the Library.
