Virginia Elliott

November 5, 1924 — January 7, 2017

Our beloved mother, Virginia Bertha Elliott, passed to her heavenly home on January 7, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.   Mommy was born November 5, 1924, in Blue Pennant, West Virginia. Her parents Paul, Sr., and Marguerite Florentz, two brothers, and two sisters came to this country from their home in St. Marie Au Mines, France. Mommy was the first child in her family to be born in this country. She was followed by another sister Marguerite a few years later.   Mommy's brothers were coal miners and her sisters married coal miners. Our Daddy, Bankie C. Elliott, was also a coal miner and married Mommy in 1941.   When the mines started closing, our family moved to Chillicothe. Daddy became an Omar Bread man, and Mommy was a stay at home mother to our family which eventually grew to six girls and one boy.   After the family grew older, Mommy and Daddy bought the former Brooks' Market at the corner of Sugar and Water Streets renaming it "Jenny and Bankie's Market." Mommy enjoyed getting to know the neighbors and their children, and Daddy enjoyed laughing and joking with the customers. They owned and operated the market for almost 20 years.   After selling the grocery, Mommy worked at Wal-Mart as a "greeter." She was able to maintain friendships she had formed with her friends and neighbors as well as make new friends with Wal-Mart customers. She had a very strong work ethic and even when Daddy became ill and passed away, she continued to work at Wal-Mart and earned the first "Golden Vest" Award for all her efforts.   Mommy's family meant the world to her. She especially loved her grandchildren and in many cases was the one to give them their first bath.   Mommy enjoyed country music and traveling. She was blessed to have been able to visit her family's home site in France. She loved country music and visited the Opry many times over the years. In the last few years, she especially enjoyed watching "The Waltons" saying it reminded her of her childhood in West Virginia.   Mommy was preceded in death by our father Bankie C. Elliott and her only son Bankie "Bo" Elliott and Bo's daughter Cheryl, her brothers Arthur (Mabel) Florentz, Paul (Margaret) Florentz, and sisters Yvonne (Paul) Lanyi, Alma (Stewart) Stevens, and Marguerite (Robert) Seanze.   She is survived by her six daughters Yvonne (Ron) Madru, Judy (Al Don) Cisco, Tina (Tim) DeBord, Peggy (Phil) Egan, Debbie (Kevin) Coe, and Missy (Rob) Reynolds and her favorite nephew Robert Florentz of Cleveland, Ohio.   Mommy had 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. The "apple of her eye" was the latest great-granddaughter Ava Florentz Kohls.   The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Assistant Living at National Church Residences and Jessica, the hospice nurse, for the love and care they gave Mommy. Further, we would like to thank Euggle Robertson, Mommy's pastor and friend, for her constant love and companionship.   The greatest gift Mommy has given us is in our knowing she loved our Lord, and she will be waiting for us when we join her and the rest of our family.  We love you, Mommy, and will miss you so very, very much but we know you will be watching over us and we will always hold in our hearts the many "Precious Memories."   Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday at Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Kurt King officiating, assisted by Pastor Euggle Robertson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm at Haller's.
