Verlyn F. (Iery) Doles, 86, of Chillicothe, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, at her home surrounded by loving family and friends.
She was born on December 24, 1938 in Queens, KY (Lewis County) to the late James W. and Louanna (Walker) Iery. Verlyn grew up in Lewis County, KY and graduated from Lewis County High School in 1957. She and the late Ovid Doles were married on June 18, 1962 and shared 48 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.
Verlyn was also preceded in death by siblings: Barbara (Iery) Moore, Bill Iery, Timmy Iery, Jerry Iery, and Dean Iery.
She is survived by her son Jeff (Angie) Doles; stepchildren Martin Doles, Teresa (John) Roberts, Patsy Doles, and Lynn Doles. Verlyn was a proud grandmother to Shawn (Stacie) Porter, Seth (Chi) Porter, and Ashley (Jeff) Ritchie, as well as several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Patricia McClurg and Rhonda Iery, and her brother Larry Iery.
Verlyn worked at General Electric as an inspector for many years until her retirement in 1994. She was also an active member of Chillicothe Baptist Church until her health declined.
Verlyn had a passion for life, an unparalleled sense of humor and has never met a stranger. She loved yard sales, shopping, and, most of all, cooking for her family. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she was known for her love of country music, especially Elvis Presley, and dancing. She had a fondness for flowers and took great pride in caring for her home. Verlyn also enjoyed following sports, with a special affection for the Cincinnati Reds.
Her vibrant spirit and deep love for her family will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew her. The family wants to express their gratitude to Adena Hospice, Dr. Seidensticker and caregivers Angie Alexander, Anita Reese Peterson and Jess Adams.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Cameron Caseman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.
