Vera Bennett

Vera J. Bennett, 70, died at 12:22am October 3, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born August 12, 1946, in Middleport, OH, to the late Harold C. and Opal Lucille Motz Chapman. On June 20, 1964, she married Harley E. Bennett, Jr., who preceded her in death on February 16, 1999. She is survived by their children: Shaun E. (Georgie) Bennett, of Chillicothe; Melissa J. (Wayne) Baxter, Frankfort; grandchildren: Tyler (Mercedes) Schaeffer, Jacob (Stephanie) Bennett, Serena (Tyler) Bennett, Levi (Ashley) Schaeffer, Harlie Rose (Colton) Schaeffer, Rebekah Bennett, Ian Bennett and Gabe Hunter; great-grandchildren: Paislee Rose Schaeffer, Royce Edwin Schaeffer and Bentley Whited; a brother Dave (Tammy) Chapman; sisters-in-law Lindi (Bob) Paull and Cindy Anderson; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend Holle Johnson. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a nephew. Vera was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1964, and a member of Tyler Memorial UMC. She had worked at Central Cinema, Hill's Dept. Store, Eye World Optical and currently for the Chillicothe City Schools as a latchkey teacher. She relished her role as a mom and grandma. She also loved all of her kids at latchkey, many of whom considered her their favorite teacher. When she wasn't spending time with her family or school children, she enjoyed floral gardening, feeding her birds and squirrels and caring for her three dogs. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday at Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Samuel Mincey officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery.
