Timothy Kern

November 27, 1943 — April 26, 2021

Timothy "Paw Paw" Gordon Kern, 77, of Chillicothe, closed his eyes on April 26, 2021 at home after visiting with family and friends as the guardian angel reached out for his hand to take him on his next journey.

Timothy was born November 27, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Charles Gordon & Francis Dale (Burlile) Kern, the first of identical twins. He attended and graduated from Central High School in 1963. Upon graduating from Central High, Tim enlisted into the United States Air Force from 1963-1967, serving one year in Vietnam as a Airman First Class Firefighter on the Crash and Rescue unit for the 635th Civil Engineer Squadron (PACAF) stationed in Bangkok, Thailand. Tim served with courage and honor and was truly a real-life hero. Tim worked numerous jobs but for over a decade, nothing was more fulfilling to him than his job as the Transportation Coordinator for the Ross County Veteran's Services, where he retired in 2018. Tim was an active member of the Ross County American Legion Post 62, and an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Minnesota Vikings fan.

On March 12, 1977, he married Gail Lee Stout, for which they shared 44 years of love. He is survived by his wife Gail; daughters, Christine Sylvia (Scott) Dowen and Jacqueline Leigh Robinson; sons, Jason Lee and Joshua Lamar (Alissa Putnam); four grandchildren, Rowen Alexandria Robinson, Timothy Michael, Nellie Mae and Joshua Putnam "JP" Kern; sister, Virginia "Ginny" (Donald) Proehl; identical twin brother, Thomas (Marilyn) Kern; and sister-in-law, Denise Kern; numerous nieces and nephews, countless friends and peers and most importantly, his trusty sidekick blue-headed conure, Tuberella. He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Lamar and Edna Stout; a sister, Sonia "Sunny" Helmick; brothers, Charles and Terry Kern; brother-in-law, Harold "Harry" Helmick; and a son-in-law, Brady Franklin Robinson.

A Military Graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 30 at the Ross County Veterans Columbarium in Greenlawn Cemetery with performance by the Greenfield-McClain Cadet Corps, under the direction of Master Sgt. John Wilson. Following the graveside service, there will be an Honor Party for a United States Air Force Veteran, at 4:30 p.m. in Tabernacle Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Please bring all your stories to share and we all know there are lots. The family wishes to thank the very special nurses at Mount Carmel Grove City, Zangmeister Cancer Center, Chillicothe Fire Department, Tabernacle Baptist Church, The National Church Residences for their special care, kindness and compassion through the ups and downs of the deadly disease, mesothelioma.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution for Wreaths Across America, 153 Caldwell Street, Chillicothe, Ohio, 45601, because every deceased veteran should be recognized for the holidays.
