Thomas Simkins

August 18, 1965 — April 2, 2021

Thomas James "Tom", "Tommy" Simkins, beloved husband, father, pap, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, moved on from this world to paradise in the early morning of Friday, April 2, 2021. While Tom's loved ones' hearts are heavy, we are comforted in knowing that he is now reunited with his precious daughter, Melissa Nichole "Missy" Simkins; his father, George James "Jim" Simkins; his grandparents, Goldie M. and Joe Cephus Lee, and Effie J. and Forest E. Blazer Sr.; and many friends and relatives who went on before him.    Born and raised in Chillicothe, Ohio on August 18, 1965, Tom is the son of Beverly Mae (Blazer) and the late George James "Jim" Simkins.     35 years of his journey was devoted to building a family and home with the love of his life Tammy Kay (Davis) Simkins. The two were united in marriage on December 18, 1987.     He was a loving father to his children, Melissa Nichole "Missy" Simkins, Dylan James Smith (Holly Imboden), Hailey Ryan Simkins (Caleb Faulkner), Lesley Morgan Simkins (Zachary Dunn), Carley Erin Simkins (James Miller); his grand-children: Brooklyn Nichole Crane, Chaz "C.J." Cain, Madilyn Smith, Carter Ryan Faulkner, Amelia Melissa-Marie Dunn, Rylee Rae Faulkner meant the world to him.    He was a devoted brother to his sister, Ronda Simkins--who he grew up with--and uncle to his niece, Jessica Shoemaker. Later in life he met his brother, Kevin Jordan, and the two formed a special relationship.   Tom spent his career in the construction industry--first with his father at Simkins' Excavating, followed by working in gravel quarries and various construction companies with the majority of years building roads. He was a skilled operator and licensed mining foreman who was well respected by his peers. He retired from the Laborers' International Union of North America, Ohio - Local 423.     He was happiest when he was outdoors playing with his grandchildren and spending time with family. His favorite hobbies included fishing, hanging out with his buddies, going to the races, and watching movies while in his recliner with a can of Coca-Cola.   No matter where Tom was, he brought laughter and light.  He was someone who could be depended on for anything that was needed. He made an impression on everyone who crossed his path during his journey here on earth.  He had a way of making everyone around him feel like his best friend. He was passionate about everything he did. But what meant the most to him was his family. He was their protector and provider, their lighthouse in the harbor. In these dark times he will continue to shine on and guide us home.   A memorial service honoring Tom's life will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Mark Gray officiating. Family will receive guests from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.    "May the wind always be at your back, and the sun always upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars."
