Lt. Col. Thomas James Matushoneck, 83, of Chillicothe, died 11:06 am, Saturday, August 10, 2013, at his home, following an extended illness. He was born March 7, 1930 in West Hazelton, PA to the late John and Josephine Paplowski Matushoneck. On February 13, 1960 he married Nancy Jayne, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Patricia (Richard) Clew, Hardin NJ and John (Stephanie) Matushoneck, Westerville, OH; grandchildren, Darcy and Quincy Clew, Hardin, NJ; and step-grandchildren, William and Sarina Motts, Westerville, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters, Helen (Bernard) Safko, Blanche (John) Panko, Edward, Leo and Edmund Matushoneck. Mr. Matushoneck retired from the VA Medical Center as a Clinical Psychiatric Social Worker in 1993. He retired from the US Army in 1985. He was a member of St. Peter Church, the National Association of Social Workers, and the American Legion Post 757. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday at St. Peter Church, Rev. William Hahn, Celebrant. Military graveside services, conducted by the US Army and the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 pm Thursday at the HALLER FUNERAL HOME, where a wake service will be held at 8:00 pm.
