Thomas J. Meehan III passed away peacefully Feb. 17, 2025, after an extended illness.
Born in Hibbs, Pa., to parents Thomas J. Meehan Jr. and Helen A. Meehan (née Reagan), Tom spent most of his childhood in Chillicothe, Ohio, where he amassed a lifetime of stories, friends and adventures.
During his elementary school years, he attended St. Peter's Catholic School (today Bishop Flaget School) and graduated from Bishop Flaget High School, where he met his future wife, Suzanne. He attended Ohio University, and after he and Suzanne married, they moved to Columbus, where Tom completed his bachelor's degree at Franklin University as the couple raised their family.
Tom spent most of his professional career in public service, where he held positions at both county and state government entities. Tom thoroughly enjoyed sharing a good story — oftentimes a yarn from his formative years living as a semi-feral child on Orange Steet in Chillicothe. As one of five children, he enjoyed spending time with his extended family and numerous lifelong friends. He was quick with a witty, oftentimes irreverent, observation and relished poking fun at the absurdity of life, love and politics. Above all else, he loved his family and was deeply proud of his three sons. He enjoyed family gatherings and cooking, with more than enough food for all who attended.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suzanne (née Mischler), his sons Thomas J. Meehan IV (Megan Coyan-Meehan), Patrick A. Meehan and Daniel P. Meehan (Ellen Meehan, née Prout) and grandsons Adam, Evan, Jack and Henry, sisters Deborah Wilbur and Kathleen Luban (Ken). He is preceded in death by parents Thomas J. Meehan Jr. and Helen A. Meehan, sister Margaret Sambi (Walter) and brother, John (Angie).
The family will hold a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
