Thomas L Head

Thomas Lee Head, 91, of Chillicothe, OH, was called home on August 8, 2026. Tom was born on September 14, 1934, in Wappapello, MO. He graduated from Puxico High School in Puxico, MO. He married his high school sweetheart, Geneta A. Reed, and they were married for nearly 70 years.

Tom was a lifetime railroad man. His career began as a Messenger Boy in the mailroom with the New York Central Railroad, earning $11.00 a day. He applied for a Chief Clerk position in Baltimore, MD, with the same company and was accepted based on a recommendation and a photograph — there was no I-70 to get there at the time. Tom was soon promoted to Sales Representative with an expense account and began night school at the University of Baltimore. After a short stint in New York City, he was transferred to Cleveland, where he earned his degree from Cleveland State University. Following graduation, he was promoted to Sales Manager and transferred to Chicago, spending the remainder of his railroad career in Indianapolis and then back in Chicago — his entire career spent with the same railroad, though it changed names many times.

After retirement, Tom continued working. He brokered freight and represented the Better Business Bureau. He served as Executive Director of the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers for 17 years, as well as President of the Rail Traffic Club of Indianapolis during the six years he lived there. Tom was a member of the Toastmasters Club and brought home the trophy many times. As a graduate of the Dale Carnegie course in Professional Development, he went on to become an instructor for many of their courses.

Tom was raised in a Christian home and served the church in many capacities, including adult Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Elder. He also took several classes of deep study at Bethel College. Tom enjoyed playing golf, working outside, and reading financial and investment publications.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Sheryl (Barry) Reynolds; son-in-law, John Campbell; grandchildren, Brooke Reynolds and Jason (Haley) Kassovic; sister, Delores Hiebert; and nephews, David (Carol) Gaines, Chris Gaines, and Steven (Debbie) Head. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Head and Evangiel London Head; his wife, Geneta Head; daughter, Deborah Campbell; grandson, Taylor Reynolds; brother, Lawrence Head; and nephew, Gregory Head.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Haller Funeral Home, with Pastor Stan Kirtland of First Capital Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Capital Christian Church.
