Thomas E. Hardman, 87, of Chillicothe, died February 28, 2023 at Berger Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born December 29, 1935 in Chillicothe to the late Howard and Mary McKee Hardman.
He was a 1954 graduate of Chillicothe High School. After graduation he attended optician school and worked for his dad at Hardman Optical. He joined the US Air Force, and following his service moved to Westerville, working for the Xerox Company. Upon the news of his father's death, he returned with his family to Chillicothe to carry on the family business. He was the owner of Hardman Optical Company for 39 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Lions Club. He was past-president of the Westerville Jaycees, and the Ross Co. Conservation League. He was also a member of the Paint Valley Local School Board, coached little league baseball for Twin Youth League, and was an Explorer and past advisor in the Boy Scouts. Tom was an admirable father and grandfather, and took pleasure in spending time with family. He enjoyed hunting and playing golf with his friends, especially any time spent as one of the "3 musketeers", including Nick Barker and Dick Goshorn.
Survivors include two children, Rick (Judy) Hardman, Oro Valley, AZ and Amy Hardman, Chillicothe; 4 grandchildren, Justin (Michelle) Hardman, Lexi Hardman, Clark Graves II, and Cataya Ratliff; a great-grandchild, Peyton Oberer; two brothers, Paul Hardman, Amarillo, TX and Jack Hardman, Cape Coral, FL; and numerous Hardman and McKee cousins. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Stout and Barbara Disler.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Military graveside services will follow in Twin Twp. Cemetery.
