He was born July 24, 1949, in Springfield, IL, to the late Robert V. and Lynda (Loper) Hanson, Sr. On December 10, 1977, he married the former Kathleen A. Schneider, who survives. Together, they shared 45 years of marriage. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Kristin (Brandon) Trout, of Chillicothe; son Thomas D. Hanson, Jr., Calif.; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Amelia and Nicholas Trout; his siblings: Robert (Donna) Hanson, Jr., Pamela (William) Phillips, Kathryn Carder, Patricia (David) Brewer, John Hanson and Paul Hanson; in-laws Francine (Grover, Jr.) Low, Charlotte Gilmore, Patricia (Gary) Carboni, and James (Karen) Schneider; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother Russell Hanson; his wife's parents; and brother-in-law George W. Schneider. Tom served his country in the US Air Force for a total of 18 years as a jet mechanic. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked as a car salesman for Nourse Dealerships where he earned Toyota's Top Sales Award. He later worked at Ross Correctional Institute as a Corrections Officer before retiring in 2010. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1071. Having moved to Florida as a child, his great love of the outdoors began. Fishing, boating, and camping were his favorite pastimes. His love for vintage cars, airplanes, and travel were skills he obtained from his father, who was an Air Force B-24 pilot in WW2. This led to his interest in space. Always using his telescope to look at stars, planets, and to track the international space station. He also was a great history and geography buff. He frequently knew the answers to every question you had about most subjects. Having been a jet mechanic in the Air Force, he had a solution to any problem that may arise in your daily life. He collected steins from his many travels all around the world while in the service. He loved photography and collecting cameras. His love of country, religion, and family were his greatest values. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Thursday, April 27, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Rev. Timothy Hayes, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-7pm at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, where a wake service will be held at 7pm.
