Thomas Franklin Barnes, 66, of Chillicothe, passed away at 6:01pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Mt. Carmel West Hospital, surround by his family. He was born June 3, 1950, in Chillicothe, to the late Edward F. Barnes and Virginia May Steinbrook. On September 2, 1994, he married Sharon K. (Potts) Barnes, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Shona (John) Maddy, and Tonya (Barry) Anderson, both of Chillicothe; his step-daughters, Angie (Martin) Hart, Brenda Leatherwood, and Teresa Shoemaker; all of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Cain Viney, Jacob Maddy, Brayden Anderson, Clayton Bouillon, Thomas F. Barnes III, Leslie Barnes, Corey Barnes, Dylan Bost, Ryan Hurley, Alayna Hurley, Taylor Leatherwood, Richie Shoemaker, and Sophie Shoemaker; and two great-grandchildren, Emary Bouillon, and Jaxon Bost; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon K. (Richard) Cockrell, and Kathy (Robert) Baranick; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce (Melissa) Barnes; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, including two special aunts, Norma Jean Gillfilan, and Flossie Steinbrook; his two sisters-in-law, Rosanne Rapp, and Mary Potts; three brothers-in-law, Harold Potts, Jr., Charles Potts, and Steve (Michele) Potts; and also a special friend, Dave Stevens. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his son, Thomas F. Barnes II, and a brother-in-law, Bob Rapp. Tom was an honorably discharge veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War era. He worked as a corrections officer at the Chillicothe Corrections Institute for many years before his retirement. In his spare time, he loved spending time outdoors, traveling, and going to watch dirt track racing. He was a member of the Scioto #6 F & AM lodge, as well as the Aladdin Temple Shrine Valley of Columbus, the Ross County Shrine Club, and the American Legion post 757. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 21, at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Webb officiating. A military graveside service conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 20th from 4:00-7:00pm, with a Masonic Funeral at 7:00pm.
