Theresa Ann Herrnstein, a cherished educator and vibrant community member, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Chillicothe, Ohio. Born on February 7, 1935, in Circleville, Ohio, Theresa lived a life dedicated to her family, her students, and her community.

A proud graduate of Circleville High School, Theresa pursued higher education at Miami University and furthered her studies at Ashland University. Her passion for learning and teaching led her to a fulfilling career as a teacher within the Unioto School District, where she inspired countless young minds over the years.

Theresa's love for nature and the arts was evident in her active participation in various community organizations. She was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church, contributed her voice as an alto in the Renaissance Singers and the Renovo Chorale, and served on the Chillicothe Tree Commission. Her passion for preserving the natural world shone through her involvement with the Scioto Valley Bird & Nature Club and her role as a Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks World Heritage Messenger.

In addition to her professional and community achievements, Theresa was a devoted mother and friend. She leaves behind her beloved sons, Andrew Herrnstein of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tom Herrnstein of Rogers, Arkansas, as well as her dear cousin, Juanita Hill. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hershell and Almeda (Buckingham) Hill, her sister, Bonita L (Hill) "Bonnie" Glass, and her brother, Donald Hill.

Theresa will be remembered for her grace, wisdom, and the enduring love she bestowed upon all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to inspire those she left behind.

Arrangements are being handled by Haller Funeral Home. A celebration of Theresa's life will be held at a later date to honor and remember her remarkable journey.

Theresa's family requests that contributions in her memory be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or to organizations that support nature conservation, reflecting her lifelong commitment to faith and the environment.

May her memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
