Chillicothe

Theodore W. Toenniges, Jr., 90, of Chillicothe, passed away on Wednesday evening, July 15, 2026 at Brown Memorial Home in Circleville, following an extended illness.

He was born June 17, 1936, in Los Angeles, California. On April 23, 1966, he married his beloved wife, Jeanette (Burton) Toenniges, who preceded him in death on September 18, 2016.

Surviving are his children, Laura (Jerry) Widmayer, Paula Anteck-Toenniges, Donald Toenniges, Mark (Jody) Toenniges, Amy (Brett) Riggin, and Lydia Toenniges; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tracy Toenniges, and a daughter, Emily Denise Toenniges Hahnemann.

Ted began his career at the Bank of America in California, handling many accounts including Kenworth. During this time, he learned that the Kenworth plant in St. Louis, MO was experiencing high crime with everyone carrying weapons to work. His move to Ohio led to a chance encounter with Charlie Hortch; who was actively working on bringing more business to Chillicothe. As a result, Kenworth Trucking exists, creating lots of careers, revenue, and improving lifestyles for many. He was also heavily involved as a coordinator for Street Scape in downtown Chillicothe; helping to preserve the history and beauty of the area. Ted began a second career as a luthier making violins and musical instruments, following in his family’s footsteps for craftsmanship. He also rebuilt and tuned pianos. In his 90 years of life, he made an incredible impact on his community, his family, and his friends. He was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the hope he had in Him. He shared his faith with everyone who came to his shop. His greatest accomplishment is that all his children know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at the Haller Funeral Home. Friends may join the family for visitation from 2:00pm until the time of the service. Ted will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Jeanette, at Twin Township Cemetery.
