Tawny E. Freeman 64, of Columbus, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 29, 2025, at the Ohio State University Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born February 11, 1961, in Rochester, PA, to Charles Sr. and Patricia Rose (Barr) Freeman.
Graduating from Chillicothe High School in 1979, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Athens, OH. She soon after moved to Dallas, TX for the first ten plus years of her working career. Moving back to Columbus, Ohio made her family happy and led her to the Wood Companies where she found a satisfying place to work for the past twenty-five years. Tawny managed maintenance of their rentals and anything else needed for people she loved and respected. She was a fan of the NFL and loved competing in the office pools and fantasy leagues.
Tawny was proud of her independence and never wanted to burden others. She was extremely comfortable just being home with her dog. She looked forward to family gatherings and when she could get together with her many Chillicothe and OU friends. Summer parties with her cousins from Pennsylvania were a special treat and she will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Tawny is survived by her father, Charles Freeman Sr., of Chillicothe; her brother Charles (Karen) Freeman; nephews Nick and Scott (Caleah) Freeman; a great-nephew Ezra Freeman; aunts and uncles: Helen (Elliott) Williamson, Eileen (Bill) Baker, and Terry Barr; and cousins Terri (Ross) Harris, Rhonda (Will) Shearer, Milena (William) Barr, Jeanne Barbadoro, Doug Baker, Jeff (Adrian) Baker and Michael (Sarah) Barr. Tawny was predeceased by her mother and aunt and uncle Mary and Walter Barr, Jr.
There will be no public viewing. The family would like to thank Haller Funeral Home for their services and the entire team of health care providers at Ohio State. A remembrance gathering with food for family and friends to pay respect will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 4-6 pm at Brookside Church Porter Center, 2215 Egypt Pike, Chillicothe, OH. The building is located on the driveway to the right of the main church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests only an act of kindness to another or a memorial contribution made to a humane society in Tawny’s honor if you desire.
