Susan A. Smith, 53, died unexpectedly at 2:03pm on June 10, 2022, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, OH. She was born December 1, 1968, in Chillicothe, to the late Gary Vernon and Barbara Ann Harris. On March 7, 1993, she married Bryan K. Smith, Sr., who survives. Also surviving is her son, Bryan K. (Keyaira) Smith, Jr., of Vinton Co.; a sister Brenda J. Smith-Ivey, Chillicothe; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, including: Tiara M. Smith-White, York, SC, Mariah L. Smith, Columbus, OH, whom she and her husband had a part in raising during their childhood and adolescent years, and Donisha (Bug) Austin, of Canal Winchester; sisters-in-law including Billie J. Young, Greenville, SC, with whom she shared a unique bond and dearly loved; an uncle David (Tova) Powell, Pickerington, OH, who also had a close relationship with Susan and were special parts of her heart; and a special childhood friend Shawna Turner, of Groveport, OH. She was predeceased by her parents Gary Vernon and Barbara Ann (Dixon) Harris; her loving mother-in-law and second mother Shirley Smith Nnatubego; a very special brother-in-law and beloved friend Dwayne E. Smith. Susan was a 1987 Graduate of Chillicothe High School. She loved sports an excelled in basketball, volleyball and track. Susan was known in the community for her love and loyalty to family. She was a devoted wife and an extraordinary mother to her only child and son on whom she lavished a lifetime of unconditional love, support and guidance. Susan's son was the center of her joy, the apple of her eye with whom she shared the strongest bond and most special relationship. Susan's commitment to her husband cannot be expressed in words. The bond between them so strong it can never be broken. Susan was a lover of the outdoors with some of her fondest memories at Hocking Hills. She loved walking, cookouts, music and intimate family and social gatherings. Susan also had a special love for cardinals. Susan will be forever remembered as a woman who loved life and people. Her smile was captivating, her laughter contagious. She was an exceptional woman of substance and a pillar of strength to all who knew her and loved her. Susan was an organ donor and through her death chose to give life to 3 other people, which is another expression of her selfless love and desire to help others. Susan touched the lives of everyone she knew and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed for a lifetime and eternity. We extend a very special thanks to Susan's beloved first cousin, an awesome woman of God, Minister June C. Lee, for all the love and assistance she has given during this tragic loss. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Tuesday, June 14, at the Lifting Up Jesus Church, 78 Douglas Ave., Chillicothe, with Elder Obadiah E. Harris officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
