Steven Kent Varney, 54, of Stoutsville, Ohio, formerly of Dingess, West Virginia, resigned his soul to God on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center due to complications related to his lengthy battle with cancer. Steve was born on March 9, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, son of Barbara Lois (Mullins) Varney and the late Homer R. Varney. On February 12, 1996, he married his high school sweetheart, Bridgett (McCoy) Varney, and together they shared 20 wonderful years of marriage. In addition to his wife and mother, Steve is survived by a daughter, Krystina (Rodney) Hook, of Stoutsville; a son, Evan (Alisha) Varney, of Piqua, OH; two brothers, Brent Varney, of Dingess, WV and Daniel (Tara) Varney, of Procious, WV; one sister, Amber Chandler, of Logan, WV; three granddaughters, also known as "Pappy's Girls", Alexis Ann, Madilynn Grace, and Isabelle Snow Hook, all of Stoutsville, one grandson, Braxton Varney, of Piqua; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and partners in crime. In addition to his father, Steve was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ann (Varney) Dingess. Steve was a graduate of Lenore High School, in Lenore, WV, class of 1981. He was honored to have served in the United States Air Force from 1982 – 1986 as an Aircraft Electrical Systems Specialist. He also studied at the community college of Air Force and at Ohio University. He spent much of his career at Buckeye Steel Castings and later on as an NDT Inspector at Mistras Group, Inc. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed playing the guitar, and was a music fanatic. He loved reading, history, his Facebook page, and making people laugh. But more than anything, he loved his family and his grand-babies. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00pm-5:00pm on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the AMVETS Post #2256, 818 Tarlton Rd., Circleville, Ohio 43113. A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 1:00pm-5:00pm at the old Lenore High School Gymnasium, in Lenore, West Virginia.
