Stephen L. Earley, 62, of Chillicothe, died at 7:30am Monday, March 16, 2015, at Westmoreland Place following a brief illness. He was born December 20, 1952, in Wilmington, OH, to the late Bob and Bert (Sidwell) Earley. On August 24, 1985, he married the former Karla J. Roush, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Paula (Kacy) Hamm; son Jon Earley, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Jennifer and Brianna Buzzuro; Trenton Hamm; Brooke and Logan Earley; a great-grandson Jaxon Earley; sister and brother-in-law Carol (Don) Middendorf, of Gahanna; brother and sister-in-law Dave (Cathy) Earley, of Las Vegas; mother-in-law Peggy Roush, of Chillicothe; sisters-in-law Sandy Christy, of Gahanna; and Joyce (Bruce) Davis, of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law Bud Roush. Steve had been a licensed insurance agent and operated his own agency for over 20 years. He then followed his passion for kayaking by starting his own kayak store, Paddle Power, which he operated for 14 years. He was an avid kayaker who taught a lot of people to love the sport as well as love nature. He was the founding member of the Southern Ohio Floaters Assoc. (SOFA), was a member of the Foothill Folk Society, and avid OSU sports fan and a charter member of the First Capital Rotary, where he was twice named a Paul Harris Fellow. Steve lived life to the fullest. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and friend. Memorial services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, March 21, at the First United Methodist Church, 585 E. Main St., with his brother, Pastor Dave Earley, officiating. Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm at the Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to one his Steve's passions: First Capital Rotary, SOFA, or any outdoor preservation effort.
