Stephen Day

Stephen M. Day Stephen M. Day, 57, of Chillicothe, died 7:00 pm, Saturday, December 2, 2006 in the Hearth and Care Nursing Home, Greenfield, following an extended illness. He was born September 5, 1949 in Chillicothe to Byron V. and Wilma M. Koch Day. On May 29, 1971 he married Ellen E. Barber, who died September 19, 2006. Survivors include his three children, Ryan (Beth) Day, of Washington CH, OH, Shannon (Nathan) Litter, of Caldwell, ID, and Andrew (Heather) Day, of Chillicothe; two brothers, Tom (Nancy) Day and Jim (Terri) Day, of Chillicothe; his father-in-law, J. Neal Barber, of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Katie (John) Cunningham, of Goshen, IN; a brother-in-law, Tom (Alayne) Barber, of Providence, UT; an aunt, Cleta Pass, of Clay City, IL; an uncle, Don (Eunice) Day, of Indio, CA; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and his wife, his mother-in-law, Mae Barber, preceded him in death. Mr. Day retired from the Chillicothe City School System in 2004 having worked in the Marysville and Mansfield school systems as well. He was a teacher, a coach, an athletic director, and led several trips through Italy as a part of his Latin Program. He graduated from Muskingham College and received his master's degree from Xavier University. He was an excellent basketball player in high school and in college. He had most recently completed studies at the Southern Ohio School of Ministry. He was active with the Fellowship of Christian Students and was a sideline reporter with WBEX Radio for the Cavalier football and basketball games. He was an avid sports fan, including following the Cincinnati Reds and playing golf. He was a member of Open Door Church, where funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Thursday in the Haller Funeral Home.
