Rev. Samuel W. Basye, Jr. Rev. Samuel W. Basye, Jr., died 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in his home, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Twin Township Cemetery. He was born in Chillicothe on December 28, 1934. He was the son of the late Samuel W. Basye, Sr. and Carlia Basye. A brother, Carl, of Waverly, passed away in May of 2006, survived by his wife Linda and family. Rev. Basye is survived by his wife, Nancy Stumbo Basye; daughter Jill and her husband Ned Basye-Featherston; grandson Lucas and granddaughter Alicia of Baltimore, MD; son Dean and his wife Susan (Englehart); grandson Mitchell and granddaughter Meredith, of Frisco TX; three sisters and their husbands, Elanor and Robert Bell of SC, Barbara and Eldon Smith, of Chillicothe, and Virginia Carr of Chillicothe; four brothers and their wives, Michael and JoAnn, of Chillicothe, Richard and Connie of SC, Rodger and Carol, of Frankfort, and Paul of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Southeastern High School in 1952. He earned degrees from Chicago Technical Institute and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He was a surveyor and a draftsman for the State of Ohio for many years until God called him to His ministry. He was an ordained minister for the Church of the Nazarene for 33 years. He was a pastor to the following Ohio Nazarene Churches: Dresden, Sunbury, Garfield Heights and Rutland. Samuel and Nan were married for 50 years. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. They were very important to him. He liked to teach his grandchildren games, read to them and listen to what they had to tell him. Everyone who knew him will remember this humble and gentle man, who loved pastoring and was loyal to his calling. He liked to fish in Canada and to explore historical sites at our nation's capital. One of his hobbies was refurbishing antique furniture. Playing chess was a favorite pastime. The last game he played was in May of this year, and he won!
