Ruth Vanvliet

Ruth P. Van Vliet, 98, of Chillicothe, died May 14, 2022, at her residence, following an extended illness.   She was born November 12, 1923, in Crestline, OH, to the late B. Austin and Martha Catherine (Reed) Robinson.    She is survived by her children: Lynn Reese, of Chillicothe, Stephen Gardner, of Columbus, and Gregg (Becky) Gardner, of Chillicothe; step-children Lisa (Steve) Coppel and Jennifer (Jack) Gordon, both of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Mat (Vicki) Reese, Chillicothe, Dakota Gardner, Hilliard, Sierra Gardner, Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Luke Meehan, Christopher Coppel and Maddie Coppel, all of Chillicothe; great-grandchildren: Jasper and Oscar Reese, Chillicothe; her sister Connie Baker, Avon Lake, OH; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors, including lifelong friend Vic Smith and special friend Sue Sherman.  She was predeceased by her husbands Richard S. Gardner, DVM; and Lloyd Van Vliet; and her sisters: Jean Cahill, Janet Beaulieu and Carol Grutsch.   The family would like to give special thanks to Adena Hospice, especially, John F. Seidensticker, MD, Emily Moore, RN, Social Worker Maggie Dunlap and nursing assistants Kilee Perdue, Lyndsie Carruthers and Brandy Ragland, for their care and support of Ruth.   Ruth was an accomplished bridge player, having earned Life Master Status with the American Contract Bridge League.  She was also a member of the Richmond Bonsai Society, having won multiple First Place awards at the Virginia State Fair.  She was a loyal Buckeye fan, a lover of cats and enjoyed needlepoint.   At her request, there will be no public services.  Private graveside services will be held in Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
