Naomi Ruth (Lawson) Stanhope-Swiger, 85, of Chillicothe died August 9, 2006 in her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born February 13, 1921 in Bridgeport, WV to Hassell R. and Gail T. Wells Lawson. She was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1938. In the following years, her family relocated to Chillicothe, where she met and married Glenn R. Stanhope on December 27, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1998. She later married Carroll S. Swiger, who died February 5, 2005. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret (Michael) Kerns, of Chillicothe; two sons, Peter A. Stanhope (Marc Nadeau), of St. Petersburg, FL; and Phillip (Cheryl) Stanhope, of Florida; 5 grandchildren: Lori (Kevin) Hart, Sarah Kerns, Michael (Katie) Kerns, Melissa Kimberlin, and Cameron Stanhope; great-grandchildren, William, Mattie, and Liam Kerns, Lillian, Samantha, Benjamin, Grace, and Vivian Hart, Ethan Michael Kerns, and Lyssa and Monte Kimberlin; a brother, Robert C. ("Lenny") Lawson, of Florida; two sisters, Jo Ann (Don) Duhl-Rose, of Marion and Mrs. James (Nancy L.) Munn, of Chillicothe; several loving nieces and nephews that have remained close to her; and several dear lifelong friends. She was predeceased by an infant sister. Ruth retired as an office administrator for Dr. James Manchester of Center Physicians in 1985. She was a member of both Trinity UMC and Tyler UMC. Ruth volunteered within the community, her church, and various other organizations. Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00pm Sunday, August 13, in Grandview Cemetery with Rev. James Groves officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Haller Funeral Home. At her request, calling hours will not be observed.
