Ruth Cooper Renner, 97, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Monday, February 15, 2016, at 8:57 pm at Adena Regional Medical Center. Ruth was born July 28, 1918, in the village of Swarts, Green County, PA, the ninth of ten children of the late Walter Noble Cooper and Nellie Maud Hopkins Cooper. A beautiful lady who loved to dance, she caught the eye of her future husband, trumpeter William (Bill) Addison Renner, as he was playing in the Brad Hunt Band for her junior-senior prom at Waynesburg (PA) High School. They married November 8, 1937. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1970. Surviving are her sons, William C. (Joy) Renner and Gary L. Renner, Chillicothe; daughter-in-law, Brenda Renner; granddaughter Beth A. (Don) Renner Trull, Lebanon, TN, and grandsons Brian S. (Tonya) Renner, Chillicothe and Zachary T. Renner, Columbus; great-grandchildren, Laura B. (James) Trull Ruble, Chattanooga, TN, Ali M. Trull, Cookeville, TN, Brittany N. Trull, Lafayette, TN, Karlee A. Renner, Chillicothe, and step-great-grandson, Zach Downs, Chillicothe. Ruth was preceded in death by her son Guy M. Renner; five brothers: Alva Hopkins Cooper, Carl Edward Cooper, Robert Chester Cooper, Clyde Myron Cooper, and Floyd Cooper; and four sisters: Madge Eleanor Cooper Phillips, Mary Elizabeth Cooper Ganiear, Mabel Louise Cooper Baily and Bess Pauline Cooper Howdyshell, all of Pennsylvania. Ruth was a member of Walnut Street Methodist Church and its UMW Sarah Circle. She and her husband were leaders of the Walnut Street Youth Fellowship. In Chillicothe, Ruth worked at Schachne's Department Store, Sumburger Restaurant, Phillips Pie Shop, Woolworth 5c and 10c, Ross County Auto License Bureau, Floral Hills Memory Gardens and was a secretary for Stan Rook at Investments Diversified Services. She retired August 1, 1983, as an office deputy for the Ross County Sheriff Department. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo with family and friends. Ruth was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. By her own example, she taught her family to treat others with respect, love and kindness. The family would like to thank caregivers at Liberty Village, Heartland of Chillicothe and Adena Regional Medical Center and Hospice for their wonderful care to Ruth. Ruth's life will be celebrated by friends and family on her birthday July 28, 2016 at Governor's Place Club House in Chillicothe. A gathering of her family will take place in Floral Hills Memory Gardens on the same day.
