Ruth Scott Carroll, 98, of Naples, FL, passed away late Tuesday morning, July 3, 2018, at Wyngate Assisted Living facility in Circleville, following a brief illness.
She was born June 10, 1920, in Bainbridge, Ohio to the late Charles Edward and Anna Elizabeth (Hatcher) Scott. On June 13, 1942, she married Robert Eugene Carroll, and together they shared nearly 55 years of marriage before his passing on April 5, 1997.
Surviving are their children, Carol A. Carroll, Mesilla, NM, Camille Carroll Lorenc, Tampa, FL, Martie Carroll, Olympia, WA, Kay Carroll (Ken) Eisinger, Naples, FL, and Coleen Carroll (Tom) Abaffy, Chillicothe; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Davis Carroll Stetts, Henderson, NV. There are seven grandchildren, Lisa (Joe Levy) McVicker, Amber (Mark) Holm, Chip (Cory) Carroll, Rebecca Abaffy, Luke (Kayte) Abaffy, Hannah Abaffy, and Thomas Abaffy; and seven great-grandchildren, Ray McVicker, Carson Holm, Gunnar Holm, Isabel Holm, Reyna Sanchez, John Carroll, and Max Abaffy. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, John Michael Carroll and her siblings, Elsa (Howard) Spargur, Harold (Josephine) Spargur, and John (Irene) Scott.
Ruth received her two year elementary teaching degree from the Wilmington Teacher College in 1940. After teaching for a brief time, she went on to raise a family and work as a bookkeeper for Carroll's Food Products Company before retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Chillicothe Country Club, a member of the Standard Breed Racing Associating, and the Potato Chip Institute of America. She and Bob were both members of the Wyndemere Golf Club and High Point Country Club, both in Naples, FL.
In her free time when she was in Ohio, she volunteered at the Veterans Administration Golf Club in Chillicothe.
A private burial was held at St. Margaret Cemetery. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Haller Funeral Home. Friends may join the family for a visitation from 12:00pm until the time of the service.
