Russell Elder

Russell P. Elder, 62, died 2:00 am, Monday, January 12, 2015, at Fayette Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born October 4, 1952 in Pennsboro, WV to the late Ray and Velva Smarr Elder. Survivors include his children, Amanda and Jonathan (Ashley) Elder, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Mayson and Mackenzie Elder; sisters, Tricia White and Gay Rhodes, of Logan; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Tami (Mitch) Freeman; a special nephew, Eric (Samantha) White; and a special great-niece, Tabitha Jayjohn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a special nephew, Jim Rhodes; and a special friend, Ken Snyder. Mr. Elder was a former Staff Sergeant in the National Guard and was a medical supply warehouse manager. He loved to fish, hunt, and he especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cincinnati Reds fan. A memorial service and cookout will be held at a later date in Scioto Trails State Park; a favorite location of his.
