Roy N. "Buck" Hertenstein Jr., 90, of Chillicothe, died 11:44 am, Monday, November 19, 2012, at the Adena Regional Medical Center, unexpectedly. He was born October 6, 1922 in Ross Co. to the late Roy N. and Mabel Muntz Hertenstein Sr. On February 6, 1948 he married the former Norma Jean Poole, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Teresa Cox and Bruce Hertenstein, of Chillicothe; a grandson, Evan Cox; a sister, Dorothy Conaway, of Chillicothe; a sister-in-law, Joanne Poole; brothers-in-law Harold, George (Bonnie) and Charles (Betty) Poole; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ray Storts and John Carroll. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn Collins, Mary Carroll Crago, Louise Wolfe and Glenna Hertenstein; two brothers, Merle and Marvin Hertenstein; a brother-in-law, Edward "Bud" Poole; and a son-in-law, Larry Cox. Buck a World War II Army veteran and was a lifelong farmer. He had retired from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and was the owner of Buck's Barn, where he enjoyed having many parties and celebrations. He was a long time Scioto Valley School Board Member and trustee for Springfield Township. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was especially fond of his Michigan mushroom hunting trips. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday at the Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Concord Church Cemetery.
