Roger Newland

Roger L. Newland, 66, died at 3:10am August 1, 2016, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe, following his third courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 22, 1950, in Chillicothe, to the late Ernest and Hazel Geraldine (Dearth) Newland. On August 12, 1976, he married the former A. Jill Atkins, who survives. Also surviving are his brothers David E. Newland, Ernest Andrew (Dawn) Newland, all of Chillicothe, Samuel (Cirstin) Newland, Framingham, MA; a sister Jennifer Aberl, Elizabethtown. KY; granddaughter Caselyn Canter; great-grandson Greyson Kepler; his daughter Nicole Newland, all of Chillicothe; sisters-in-law Susan (Skeeter) Smith, Adelphi, and Pamela Shields, Kettering; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, whom he consider to be family, Shirley Hansel; and Mark, Chris, and Rob Hansel. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister Judy; and a sister Helen Elaine Proehl. Roger was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1968. He then served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1969-1971, where he was a Purple Heart Recipient. Roger worked for Kerr Wholesale for 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 757, charter member of the Chillicothe Harley Owners Group (HOG) and former member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club (VVMC). Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Minister Jonathon Canter officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Twin Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 11am until 1pm Thursday at Haller's.
