Roger Eugene Bolen, 92, of Londonderry, died February 21, 2021 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, OH.
He was born November 9, 1928 in Meigs Co. to the late Wesley and Winnie Amos Bolen. He married Betty L. Radekin Bolen, who preceded him in death. Survivors include his son, John W. Bolen, Springfield; granddaughter, Wendy (Patrick) Myelle; great-granddaughter, Amelia Ann Myelle; a brother, Max (Vivian) Bolen, Pataskala; sisters, Lois (Keith) Weaver, Columbus and Donna Nelson, Pomeroy; a step-brother, Dale Jagers; a sister-in-law, Helen Bolen; a step-sister, Loretta Allen; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Wayne and Brenda Barker and family. He was preceded in death by 5 siblings.
Roger was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He then went to work for Mead Paper and retired in 1980 from Tech. Services. In 1956 he became a founding member of the Liberty Township Fire Department, serving until 2016. During his 60 years of service, he held every office, and every rank in the department; was president of the Ross Co. Fire Association; and was instrumental in establishing a county wide radio system, the first EMT class, Ross County's first emergency squad, the design of the current fire station, and several squads and fire trucks. He enjoyed travelling. He and Betty travelled to all 50 states, and were members of the Holiday Ramblers motorhome group.
A private family visitation and funeral will be held at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, Pastor Jeremy Hatfield officiating. Public military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday in Londonderry Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required. Those who wish to process with the fire department and family to the graveside service should arrive at Haller's by 12:30 pm. The family service will be livestreamed at https://video.nest.com/live/xpJYv9zGfO at 12:00 pm. The camera will not be live until the time of the service.
