Rodney Uhrig

March 18, 1954 — December 13, 2021

Rodney Allen Uhrig, 67, of Chillicothe, passed away at his residence on December 13, 2021, following an extended illness.
He was born March 18, 1954 to the late John and Nancy (Klepinger) Uhrig.  Rodney was born and raised in Chillicothe OH., the third of four children, and youngest son. Surviving are his wife Carol Uhrig; children, Alicia Uhrig, Jillian (Rodney) Rutter, Adam (Jessica Riley) Uhrig, and Hannah Uhrig; 11 grandchildren; his brothers, Kregg Uhrig and Alex (Cindy) Uhrig; sister, Michelle (Ted) Holdren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Jerry Felty, Barry Barnes, Gale Rickey, Jimmy Butt, Greg Stonerock; and many more. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Nancy (Klepinger) Uhrig, father and mother-in-law John and Rita Grabb; uncles David Uhrig and Richard Klepinger; aunts LaVonne Bowsher, Charlotte Sue Wiseman and Pat Klepingek; and great nephew Samuel Towne.
Rodney grew up with a love for hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors in general. He graduated from Chillicothe High School where he played many sports and earned the nick name "Sugar Bear". In his early 20's he was in a near fatal accident which left him with lifelong health issues. During his recovery Rodney focused his time and energy on two of his greatest passions, cooking and music. Self-taught in both areas, he learned to play a mean fiddle and create culinary delights much to the enjoyment of his family.
Rodney's other greatest passion in life was his family. He devoted much of his time to passing his wealth of knowledge and wisdom of many things onto his children and grandchildren. He showed his love through sharing his life experiences and supporting his family any way he could. He was lovingly named Grumpa by his oldest grandson. The name stuck, and the other 10 quickly followed suit. Being Grumpa was one of his greatest joys and he truly cherished the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.
The family would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for their guidance and compassion during this difficult time.
There will be a Celebration of Life held Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the Scioto Township Hall, 164 S. Watt St., Chillicothe, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
