Roberta Bradford Magill passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 14 th , 2018. As she is welcomed into the arms of her loving savior, she joins her husband, Glenn, and her beloved son, Bret, both of whom preceded her in death. Roberta was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on August 22, 1932 to the late Lynn and Edna Bradford. In 1950, she married her high school sweetheart Glenn "Red" Magill. Together in the Manor, they raised four children: Glenn "Rusty" (Svetlana) Magill, Vicki (Steve) Anthony, Michael (Tammy) Magill, and Bret. She is survived by brother Richard Bradford and his daughters Debbie Williams, Kathy Schmidt and Robin Davidson, grandchildren Brian (Kelly) Magill, Daniel (Tiffany) Magill, Katie (Edward) Brown, Glenn "Trey" (Nadezhda) Magill, and Michelle (Niwat) Jaruwannakorn, nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law Susie Carter and brother-in-law Bill (Donna) Magill, and a special friend, Cindy Anderson. The poster woman for the saying "it's never too late," Roberta earned her bachelor's degree in education from Ohio University at the age of 40 and her master's degree at age 42, and embarked on a 30-year career as a reading teacher at Huntington schools. She was active in her community as a member of the American Association of University Women and by serving on the board of Tecumseh, and as a 70-year member of Walnut Street United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Perhaps her proudest accomplishments were her roles in philanthropic outreach: as a founder of the Central and Southern Ohio chapter of the Aplastic Anemia Foundation of America, and on the board of the Red Cross, to which she donated more than 22 gallons of blood (in fact, those who saw her around town would recognize her car by the "GIV BLD" license plate). From composing music to winning tennis trophies at the Chillicothe Racquet Club to writing and illustrating a children's book, Roberta was a woman of many talents. She was an avid traveler, an eternal optimist, and a generous spirit who was fiercely committed to causes and people she cared about. Close friends and family appreciated her keen sense of humor, and often chided her for her tendency to be forgetful—but it's certain that, to all those who knew and loved her, she will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm, January 20, 2018, at the Walnut St. United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Ross Co. Unit of the American Red Cross, 181 N. Bridge St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
