Robert L. LaGard, 91, of Chillicothe, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 at his home, following a lengthy battle with colon cancer.
He was born March 30, 1933, in Chillicothe, son of the late Ulysses J. and Ruth (Byers) LaGard. On November 3, 1956, he married his beloved wife, Mildred "Mikie" (Black) LaGard, and together they shared nearly 65 years of marriage before her passing November 2, 2021.
Surviving is his brother, Rev. Dale (Cindy) Gilbert; his sister, Cindy (Dwight) Murray; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary LaGard; siblings, Andrew LaGard, Leroy LaGard, Kate Machesney, and Carol Ramsey.
Bob was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from October 1951 until September 1959. He went on to further serve his country and community by joining the Civil Air Patrol. Following his honorable service, he went on to work for Mead Paper Company where he later retired. Bob was also a member of the Ross County Shrine Club, where he was a 32 nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the VFW and also the American Legion. In his free time, he loved flying air planes and riding motorcycles.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Haller Funeral Home, with his brother, Rev. Dale Gilbert officiating. Military graveside honors will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 11:00am until the time of the service.
