Robert Evans

July 23, 1940 — September 19, 2024

Robert Clark Evans finished this life on September 19, 2024 after 84 years full of laughter and love. Bob, as he was known by all, never met a stranger, had a story for every occasion and loved his family and community fiercely.

Born on July 23, 1940, he was the youngest child of Kate and Charlie Evans. He is preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Dr. Bill Evans and Bill's children Will and Cath. Bob spent his childhood running up and down the hidden stairs of Carlisle Hill and West Fifth creating mischief and mayhem with his childhood friend, Tim Stein, of which many stories remain.

He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1958 and went on to play football at Miami University where he met Pat Steitler. He claimed it was love at first sight in that Geology classroom, but her version of events may be closer to the truth. Her story goeslike this: he called, asked me out, I asked him to hold while I looked up his picture in the Miami Freshman Roster to verify he was the person I'd met "over the rocks", and then said, sure. Like most of his stories, they improved with time, and were always subject to varying points of view… but however their union began, it ended hand in hand after 61 years of marriage.

Upon graduation in 1962, Bob joined the Marine Corps. When asked to describe himself - it was always - husband, father, grandfather, businessman and Marine. He took tremendous pride in the time he served and in the brotherhood of the Corps.

In 1964, Pat and Bob returned to Chillicothe where he began working alongside his father at Evans Insurance Agency. As the fourth generation of Evanses, he added a real estate branch - Evans Realty, then Gallery of Homes and finally Coldwell Banker. He loved working with new families moving into Chillicothe for it allowed him to showcase his love for his hometown and meet new people - 2 of his favorite pastimes.

By far one of his crowning accomplishments was his role in the founding of Tecumseh! and The Scioto Society where he remained a board member until his death. He was the youngest founding member at just 35 years old and his joy and pride in bringing the outdoor drama to life was immeasurable.

Bob was instrumental in saving the Majestic Theater, a member of the Rotary Club, The Sunset Club, former president of The Chillicothe Country Club, and an entrepreneur, but it was his role as husband, father and grandfather that was his guiding light. He leaves this world Pat Steitler Evans, John and Stephanie (Slater) Evans, Jenny Evans First and Richard First, Juli (Evans) and Ryan Brenning, and grandchildren: Luke and Abby Evans, Eli Evans, Isabelle Evans, Estelle First, Savitt First, Cooper Brenning and Mackenzi Brenning.

He will be missed as much as he was loved. Please join us for a graveside military service, Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, Sunday, October 13 at 3:00 and a celebration of life gathering at the Chillicothe Country Club immediately following.
