Robert E. Detamore, 91, formerly of Columbus Westside, now of Lancaster, died unexpectedly, surrounded by family, at 12:25pm February 25, 2022, in Fairfield Medical Center. He was born in Columbus to the late Carl and Frances (Tinker) Detamore. On February 12, 1955, he married the former Jean D. Schaeffing, who preceded him in death in 2004. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Debra A. Meadows; brothers Loren and James Detamore; his son-in-law Michael McNamara; and sisters-in-law Jane Schaeffing, Phyllis Hand and Julia Shaver. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Sue (Loy) Householder of Lancaster, and Mary (Russ Pollock) McNamara, of Dublin; his son-in-law Larry Meadows, of Canal Winchester; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren with another expected soon; his in-laws Philip (Rose Ann) Schaeffing, Peggy Haller, Patty (Sam) Moone, and John Shaver; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a graduate of West High School and had attended the Ohio State University prior to being drafted. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He then returned to Columbus and served as a Police Officer, retiring in 1988 as Sergeant, following 33 years of dedicated service. Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, was an avid OSU Buckeye fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing card games. His funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, March 4, at Schoedinger-Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd. (@ Kingston Ave.) Grove City. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7, and 1-hour prior to the funeral Friday at the funeral home.
