Robert William Byrum, Sr., 74, of Chillicothe, passed away on Tuesday evening, January 2, 2024, at the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born on August 12, 1949 in Chillicothe, son of the late Eugene Clifford and Margaret Ann (Andrews) Byrum.
Surviving is his longtime companion, Cindy Bailey; his son, Robert W. Byrum, Jr.; two step-sons, Brock James and Dana James; an aunt, Ruth Broft; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas E. Byrum, and a sister, Patricia A. Byrum.
Robert was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, class of 1967. He went on to join the United States Navy in 1969, where he honorably served three tours in Vietnam before being discharged in 1973 as a GM1 gunners' mate. He later rejoined the Navy Reserve, where he served an additional twelve years from 1979-1991. Robert was also employed at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center for more than 31 years before retiring in 2005. In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors, taking nature walks, and loved going fishing.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 1:00pm with Chaplain Cameron Caseman officiating. Military graveside honors conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 11:00am until the time of the service.
